Farm & Liability

Event Liability
  • What is it? This policy is a liability policy designed for individuals or for groups/clubs that hold equine related events.

  • What is Covered? In the event that someone is hurt or killed at an event you operate, and you are held liable, the policy will cover expenses that come with the injury or death. You choose the amount of liability up to which you will be covered.

  • Requirements: An application must be signed and filed with Covered By Cori.

  • Cost: The cost of a Stable Liability Policy is based on exposures you have, such as number of horses, boarders, etc.

Examples:

1. You are holding an event at the local arena. You purchase a stable liability policy to cover the show. While the event is going on, one of the competitors runs over a spectator with their horse. The injured person sues the club for injuries and the club is held liable. The policy will defend the club at no cost to the club and pay for damages up to the limits the club has in the policy.

Care, Custody & Control
  • What is it?  This endorsement is used to provide legal liability coverage for horses that you do not own that are in your care, custody and control. It protects against accidents and sickness to those horses when they are in your care. It is designed to be used by boarding stables, breeding operations, and training facilities. It is not a mortality policy. It covers you if you are held liable up to the limits you choose.

Examples:

1. You have a stallion station that breeds outside stallions to outside mare and foals out client mares. One of the stallions runs into a pipe fence and is killed. The owner’s claim it is your negligence and sue you for the stallion’s value. Because you have a CC&C policy, you are protected.

  • Cost: The rates vary on this policy based on the amount of coverage you desire and the number of non-owned horses in your custody. An example of cost for the above mentioned $5K/$25K would be about $275 per year.

Farm Owners
  • What is it?  The farm policy is designed to cover a farm owner against property loss, as well as personal and commercial liability associated with his horse business.

  • What is covered? Property examples that are covered are dwellings, horse barns, shed rows, covered round pens, saddles, tack, etc. This also provides you with liability insurance for the risks included with running your horse business.

  • Deductibles: Varies according to your needs

Examples:

1. You have a Farm Owner’s Policy on your property. A hailstorm comes through and does severe damage to your home, your barn and your shed rows. The insurance adjuster says it will cost $12,000 to repair the damage. After contacting Covered By Cori, all of these things will be covered under your policy, minus the deductible.

The policy provides coverage for the amount which you are held liable, up to the limit of liability you choose.
